Israel prepares for possible ground incursion in Lebanon as world leaders push for ceasefire.

United Nations chief António Guterres has warned that Lebanon is “on the brink,” calling on Israel and Hezbollah to “stop the killing and destruction.” He said the country had been experiencing its bloodiest period “in a generation” since their conflict escalated.

As the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalates, Israel is preparing for a potential ground incursion into Lebanon. This move comes amidst ongoing airstrikes and missile exchanges, which have already resulted in significant casualties and displacement. Israeli officials emphasize that the ground operation aims to degrade Hezbollah's capabilities and secure Israel's northern border.

World leaders, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and US President Joe Biden, are urging for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation. Despite these calls for peace, Israel continues its military preparations, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expected to address the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation.

The conflict has already caused substantial humanitarian issues, with thousands of people displaced and hospitals in Lebanon overwhelmed by the injured. Efforts by countries like France to mediate a ceasefire are ongoing, but the situation remains volatile.
