The Honest Woodcutter

Once upon a time, there was a poor woodcutter named Ravi who lived in a small village. Every day, he would go into the forest to cut wood and sell it in the market to feed his family. One day, while chopping a tree near a river, he accidentally dropped his axe into the water.

Ravi was devastated; his axe was his only means of making a living. He sat on the riverbank, crying. Suddenly, a fairy appeared before him. “Why are you crying, dear woodcutter?” she asked.

“I lost my axe in the river,” Ravi replied, sobbing. “Without it, I can’t provide for my family.”

The fairy decided to help. She plunged into the river and emerged with a golden axe. “Is this your axe?” she asked.

“No,” Ravi said, shaking his head. “That’s not mine.”

The fairy then returned to the water and came out with a silver axe. “What about this one?” she asked.

“Not mine,” Ravi said again.

Finally, the fairy returned with Ravi’s rusty old axe. “Is this yours?” she asked.

“Yes! That’s mine!” Ravi exclaimed, relieved.

The fairy smiled at his honesty. “You have shown great integrity. As a reward, I will give you the golden and silver axes as well.” With that, she vanished, leaving Ravi with all three axes.

From that day on, Ravi prospered, using his honesty to guide him in life. He always remembered that integrity is the true path to success.

Moral of the Story

Honesty is the best policy; being truthful leads to greater rewards.
